Inside the observatory

The Maria Mitchell Association welcomed guests to its Vestal Street Observatory on August 19 for a special night under the stars. The evening began with cocktails and conversation featuring Sam Hale, the grandson of George Ellery Hale, founder of the Mount Wilson Observatory. Hale spent more than five decades in the investment management industry before dedicating himself to advancing the mission and future of the observatory his grandfather founded in 1904. As night fell, guests gathered inside the historic observatory dome for a guided tour of the stars.
