Garden gates open

PHOTOGRAPHY BY BILL HOENK

Green thumbs had their day in the dirt last week with the return of the Nantucket Garden Festival, held July 7–9. Alongside workshops and presentations from world-class speakers and gardeners, this year’s event featured guided tours of private homes and gardens rarely open to the public. Now in its 17th year, the festival serves as a fundraiser for the Nantucket Lighthouse School, which incorporates gardening and nature into its experiential learning curriculum.
