Dog days on stage

Curtains rose last week for the opening of Sylvia, the latest production by Theatre Workshop of Nantucket. Written by A.R. Gurney, the two-act comedy first premiered Off-Broadway in 1995, starring Sarah Jessica Parker in the title role. The play follows Greg and Kate, a Manhattan couple adjusting to empty-nest life, whose marriage is suddenly disrupted when Greg brings home Sylvia, a quick-witted, street-smart dog he finds in Central Park. Local talents Ellie Gottwald and John Shea are among the cast bringing the story to life on stage. Sylvia runs through October 5 at Bennett Hall.
