Bikers go batty

PHOTOGRAPHY BY BILL HOENK

Cyclists hit the sandy, winding trails of the Middle Moors on Sunday, October 25, for the fifth annual Batacular Bike Race, hosted by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation. The 9 am start sent riders out on either an eight-mile loop or a 16-mile double lap across the rolling terrain of what is the island's largest expanse of undeveloped open space. Cristian Chavez won the single loop in 44:40, and Ever Pena took the double loop in 1:10:00.
