Whalers rule the rivalry

On the field, Nantucket sports teams took on their rivals from Martha's Vineyard, with the Whalers taking most of the trophies over the Vineyarders. In the 45th iteration of the iconic Island Cup football competition, the Whalers varsity squad roared back from a five-game losing streak, stomping the Vineyarders 56-7. The win marks the last game of the season for the football team.

In other matchups, during what’s known as the "Battle in the Atlantic," the Whalers varsity teams also came away with victories in field hockey, with a 1-0 score, and in boys soccer, with a 2-0 score. The wins mean the Whalers took this year's Golden Anchor trophies in those sports. The Vineyarders claimed the girls soccer trophy for the fourth year in a row.
