Strong start for the Whalers

Senior running back and middle linebacker David Guillen-Taveras darts through defenders en route to the Nantucket Whalers home opening win against the East Bridgewater Vikings. David Guillen-Taveras was named the Nantucket Energy Player of the Game by the 97.7 ACK-FM broadcast team.
The Nantucket High School Whalers football team kicked off their regular season Saturday with a 16-8 victory over the East Bridgewater Vikings at Vito Capizzo Stadium. The win marked a strong start for new head coach Fernando Jones, who earned his first victory with the Whalers. Senior defensive back Kyden Whitfield came up with an incredible interception in the fourth quarter to help secure the win. David Guillen-Taveras was named the Nantucket Energy Player of the Game by the 97.7 ACK-FM broadcast team.
Nantucket will travel to Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School next Saturday, September 19, for a 1 pm kickoff. The action can be heard on Nantucket's True Island Radio, 97.7 ACK-FM, with live play-by-play from Mark Manchester and Dick Herman, plus pregame, half-time, and postgame segments.
