Red, white, and blue were the colors of the weekend as visitors flocked to Nantucket to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. All roads led downtown Saturday morning, where families and friends gathered for the annual Main Street water fight and 27th annual reading of the Declaration of Independence at St. Paul’s Church. A drumline parade, band performance, and farmers market rounded out a lively morning in town. The fun continued at Children’s Beach with lawn games and live music on the bandstand, along with face painting, a puppet show, and other fun for the kids. A fireworks display at Jetties Beach offered a dazzling close to the day’s festivities, with spectators lining the beach to watch the sky light up over Nantucket Harbor.
