On Thursday, August 7, the Artists Association of Nantucket kicked off its Hale Juried Exhibition with a reception in the Big Gallery on Straight Wharf. Frank Verpoorten, an art historian and seasoned curator, served as juror for the show, selecting all exhibited art and awarding top prizes to winners. Heather V. McLeod received first place for her painting First Love, Jasmine, while Kit Noble took second place for Blue Ridge and Meghan C. Weeks earned third for The Lincoln Line. Photographer Bill Hoenk, our staff lensman for Nantucket About Town and our companion publication DayBreak Nantucket, was awarded the Hale Award for Excellence for his photo Pink Sky at Night.
